The flat engine, also known as horizontally opposed engine, is a common internal combustion engine layout. Its history dates back to the late 19th century. The earliest horizontally opposed engine appeared in the early development of automobiles. German engineer Karl Benz invented the world’s first mass-produced car in 1886, which featured a horizontally opposed four-stroke internal combustion engine. This engine arranged the cylinders symmetrically on both sides of the central line of the vehicle, with the crankshaft located below the engine and connected to the wheels through connecting rods. Due to its compact structure and smooth operation, this engine became the mainstream in the automotive manufacturing industry at that time.

With the continuous advancement of automotive technology, the horizontally opposed engine has been widely used in small cars, mid-size cars, and luxury cars. Among the horizontally opposed engines, several are considered classics:

Subaru Boxer Engine

Porsche Flat-Six Engine

Ferrari Flat-12 Engine

These horizontally opposed engines have unique characteristics and advantages, enjoying a good reputation among automotive enthusiasts and the industry. Their design and engineering provide better balance, handling, and driving experience to vehicles, making them classics in automotive history.

After a year of development, the TOYAN FS-B400 horizontally opposed four-cylinder water-cooled micro engine is finally ready to hit the market. This engine restores the essential elements of the Porsche 911 Type 901 air-cooled horizontally opposed engine from 1964, perfectly showcasing the distinctive air-cooling radiator features of the redesigned engine.

To fit the miniaturization of the redesigned engine, we lengthened the camshaft and reserved space for installing ignition components, facilitating the use of fuel. Dual belt pulleys and a synchronized tensioning mechanism enhance operational stability. In the starting mechanism, a new compact tensioning design is incorporated, ensuring the good engagement of the starting belt, preventing slippage and tooth skipping, and naturally extending the service life of the starting belt.

The most distinctive feature is the air-cooling radiator design, offering both aesthetic and practical advantages. The fan can reach a maximum speed of 9000 RPM, providing the engine with strong and efficient heat dissipation and more stable power output. As the first micro engine of the horizontally opposed type, through continuous optimization and improvement in design, we believe this new engine, with its unique design style, will bring enthusiasts a new experience!

The product launched this time is a horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine, and this engine will be available in parts display for everyone. For pre-assembled finished versions, please contact us to purchase.
